About this print

“Clew Bay” is an original, limited edition, hand-pulled lino print. It is designed, carved and hand printed in West Cork. It is one of the biggest linocut prints I can currently produce.

This print stretches from Fahy Lough in the north to Silver strand in the south and takes in what has to be one of the most glorious coastlines in Ireland. Clew Bay is a situated in County Mayo on the West coast of Ireland and is overlooked by Croagh Patrick and the Nephin Mountain range. Legend has it that there are 365 islands in Clew Bay, one for every day of the year. It was the stronghold of Grace O’ Malley, the fearless pirate queen and a refuge for John and Yoko Ono who owned an island there.

Also in this print are the pretty towns of Louisburgh, Westport, Newport and Polranny, the islands Achill Island, Clare Island, Inishturk, Inishbeg and Inishbiggle and lakes such as Lough Fey and Lough Beltra. Achill Island is the largest island in Ireland and is connected to the Curraun Peninsula by a bridge at Achill Sound. It features the spectacular beaches of Keem Bay and Keel Beach and on it’s south-eastern shore you can find Kildavnet Castle, said to have been built by the O’Malley Clan in about 1429 and was home to the pirate queen Granuaille (Grace O’ Malley).

Each “Clew Bay” is individually printed by hand using the highest quality fade resistant gold ink. It is printed on azure blue Canson mi-teintes paper. This is a 60% cotton paper, acid free and conservation quality. This means that your print will resist fading, yellowing and deterioration.

*Please note that the print comes unframed.

Please note that your print was made by a human hand and not a printing machine. This means that there will be small variations between prints, which adds to their uniqueness.

If a print is out of stock, please check back again in a couple of weeks, as I will be printing more. If a limited edition sells out, it will be removed from the shop.

Due to the size of the print, it will be sent rolled in a protective mailing tube and packaged to avoid damage to the print. It will be ready to bring to a framers for framing.
