About this print

“Carbery’s Hundred Isles” is an original, limited edition hand pulled lino print. It is designed, carved and hand printed in West Cork.

This print stretches from bustling Skibbereen all the way along the coast to the sailing village of Schull. It takes in the glorious Lough Hyne, Baltimore, Sherkin Island, Cape Clear, Roaring Water Bay and all it’s islands, the outskirts of Ballydehob and all the many townlands, coves and inlets in between.

The name “Carbery’s Hundred Isles” comes from a poem by Thomas Davies called the Sack of Baltimore which was published in 1844. It tells the story of a raid on the village of Baltimore by Algerian pirates in 1631. The poem begins with the lines, “The summer sun is falling soft on Carbery’s hundred isles, The summer sun is gleaming still through Gabriel’s rough defiles, Old Innisherkin’s crumbled fane looks like a moulting bird, And in a calm and sleepy swell the ocean tide is heard”.

Each “Carbery’s Hundred Isles” is individually printed by hand using the highest quality fade resistant gold ink. It is printed on azure blue Canson Mi-teinte paper. This is a 60% cotton paper, acid free and conservation quality. This means that your print will resist fading, yellowing and deterioration.

Please note that your print was made by a human hand and not a printing machine. This means that there will be small variations between prints, which adds to their uniqueness.

If you purchase your print unframed, it will come mounted so that it is ready to be placed in a 12x10 inch frame of your choice. The mounts that I use are lignin-free, alkaline-sized and pH neutral to ensure that they do not cause any damage to the print.

The high quality wooden frames are painted in limed white and made in West Cork.

If a print is out of stock, please check back again in a couple of weeks, as I will be printing more. If a limited edition sells out, it will be removed from the shop.
